Steps For Spraying Your Welded Surfaces Using The Preval Sprayer and vFan

Precautions should be taken when working with solvent based materials. Always wear solvent proof gloves and a respirator as solvents will be absorbed by the skin and can be breathed in and can cause respiratory and lung problems. Glasses should also be worn as a precaution when painting, or using tools such as a wire wheel, to avoid eye injuries. Always work in a safe and well ventilated area.

 

STEP 1

Wire wheel or wire brush surface to remove loose welding slag and dirt. Be sure to get into all the crevasses and corners where dirt and grease like to hide.

 

STEP 2

Wipe down with wax and grease remover. Soak clean towel with remover and wipe down in one direction. You may scrub stubborn areas, but always wipe down in one direction with a clean, wax and grease remover soaked towel.

 

STEP 3

Use Preval Sprayer when applying Primers. Mix Epoxy Primer according to manufacturer’s guidelines:

  • 2 parts paint, 1 part activator, 1/2 part reducer
  • Stir mixture for 2-4 minutes.
  • Pour mixture into the 6 oz. glass jar through a paper cone strainer to ensure no contaminates block the tube or valve of the Preval Sprayer.
  • Cap the top of the bottle with block off cap provided in the sprayer kit.
  • LET MIXTURE SET UP FOR NO LESS THAN 30 MINUTES!!!
  • Failure to allow correct set up time WILL result in product failure.
  • After 30 minutes wait time, shake mixture for 30 seconds, remove block off cap and replace with sprayer head assembly.
  • Product and sprayer are now ready for use.

Wait for primer to cure.

 

Mixing and Spraying Instructions for the vFan Spray System (.9mm)

 

STEP 1

  • 2 parts paint, 1 part activator, 1/2 part reducer per manufacturer’s guidelines
  • Stir mixture for 2-4 minutes.
  • Pour mixture into the 3 oz. or 6 oz. glass jar through a paper cone strainer to ensure no contaminates block the tube or needle assembly of the Preval vFan Airbrush.

 

STEP 2

  • Affix vFan airbrush cap onto bottle.
  • Firmly push and twist bottle assembly into the bottom of the airbrush.
  • Product and vFan Airbrush are now ready for use.

 

STEP 3

  • Allow proper drying time for primer before applying color.
  • Failure to not allow proper dry times will result in de-lamination of paint.

 

STEP 4

  • Apply color.
  • Size of area to be covered will determine the Aircap that will be used.
  • Judging by the size of the weld area, we recommend the Fan Pattern cap.
  • Spray from a distance of about 2-3 inches from the surface, applying paint in an even wet coat.

 

NOTE

Check area where holes are located on the air horn of the fan cap, as paint will build up and block off air holes in these areas, causing erratic spray patterns. If this happens, use a Q-Tip or rag with thinner to clean off paint build up. The cleaner the vFan airbrush, the better the spray.

 

STEP 5

Cleaning vFan:

  • Clean using Lacquer Thinner or any thinner used. Spray thinner through vFan, watching for the spray to change from color to a clear spray. (You can also block off the front part of the vFan airbrush to Back Flush the vFan.)
  • To Back Flush, place a rag or towel over the Aircap, located at the front of the vFan
    airbrush.
  • Press down on trigger to activate airflow.
  • Pull back gently on trigger with airflow activated. Only pull back on trigger a slight amount.
  • Covering the head assembly, activating air, and pulling back on trigger will push the air back through the system and into the bottle, causing it to bubble.
  • Pulling back too far on trigger will push air at a very high volume, causing thinner to forcefully push out the vent hole on top of the bottle assembly, and can also push the bottle off the vFan.

 

A good way to double check your cleaning job is to:

 

  • Remove Red Handle from back of the vFan.
  • Loosen the Needle Chuck and pull the needle back to remove it from the vFan Spray System.

NOTE: Needle should be completely clean and a uniform silver color all the way to the tip. If needle still has paint on it, wipe it with thinner and rag until clean. Insert needle back into vFan SLOWLY!

 

  • Push needle forward gently, twisting slowly as you push. This will break up any paint residue that may be left in the tip, and lessen the chance of damaging the airbrush tip.
  • Slightly tighten the Needle Chuck, and spray a little more thinner through gun. At this point the vFan should be clean and ready for next color, coat or storage.
