Custom Doormat Art

Making DIY doormat art is a quick way to personalize your home entry. All you need is an unadorned natural fiber doormat and a few simple tools.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Preval Sprayer
  • Plain doormat
  • Printer
  • Anchor image
  • Cardstock
  • Self-healing mat
  • Exacto knife
  • Tape
  • Acrylic paint
  • Rocks
  • Scrap paper

Print a stencil image

Find an anchor vector image on Google Images. Print it as large as possible on a regular sheet of 8.5” x 11” paper. Tape it onto cardstock or a manilla folder.

Make the stencil

Use an exacto knife to cut the edges along the anchor image. Cut out the circular center at the top of the anchor, as well.

Prepare the Preval Sprayer

Next, prepare the Preval Sprayer. Add 1 oz. of water based acrylic paint to the sprayer jar and 2 oz. of water. Cap, shake and attach the spray can.

Spray the mat

Place the anchor cut out in the center of the mat, and cover any exposed areas around the stencil with scrap paper. Hold the anchor stencil in place by placing a few rocks along the edges.

Spray paint evenly across the stencil. Apply as many layers as needed to achieve the color depth you want. Carefully remove the stencil to reveal your DIY doormat.
